Tammy Price has given the reader a very intense and concise study for the prayer life of a committed Christian, based on Scripture verses and her thoughts that have resulted from her committed life of prayer.
The number 40 is used in God's Word many times--wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, 40 days of rain to flood the earth, 40 days on the mount for Jesus to be in prayer, so it does seem appropriate for a 40 day study of prayer to form a good habit.
In her introduction the author states that "Prayer is an essential preparation for a victorious purpose-filled and fruitful, Christian life” (p.12). This is very true, but our lives sometimes become too filled with other things for us to make prayer time an "adventure to the heart of God," with all of the wonderful answers awaiting us, whether or not they are to our liking.
Although this book is considered a devotional, it is not simply a one paragraph, daily, quick self-search, since it has 40 chapters of study concerning how to be a committed, fervent pray-er. There is an exercise for careful consideration at the end of each chapter, along with an appropriate prayer penned by the author. From "God's Promise of Prayer," to "Our Power in Prayer," to "Love Interceding in Prayer," to "Righteous Requirements of Prayer, " the reader will find powerful reflections for each of 40 days in strengthening her prayer life and thus being empowered as the woman of prayer that God wants her to be
This is the second book of the author's series on prayer, the first being Alphabet Prayers: The Power of Praying Scripture into the Hearts You Love. She also founded Hearts of Prayer ministries to encourage women through Scripture-based prayers.
It is inspiring to read what others have learned through their prayer lives, but it is so much more essential for us as individuals to simply read God's Word for ourselves, follow the teachings and actions of Christ, and apply the inspired messages to our prayers that follow, since the "effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16)
