Power Suit: The Armor of God Fit for the Feminine Frame

by Sharon Norris Elliott

Review  |   Author Bio  |  Read an Excerpt

Sharon Norris Elliott explores Ephesians 6:10-20 in her newest book, Power Suit: The Armor of God Fit for the Feminine Frame. Elliott explains that Christians are not “properly outfitted” to enter the spiritual battle. She guides her female readers to reflect inwardly before attempting to have an effective outward ministry.

Elliott provides in-depth analysis of each piece of armor: belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the spirit, and prayer. She presents Scripture references and anecdotes in each chapter to verify her points and to illustrate modern day applications of the spiritual lessons. Special features include a reading guide, important sidebar notes, and application questions. Unfortunately, the book’s formatting makes it a challenge to connect concepts, and the author seems to jump across topics without clear transitions between paragraphs. Despite the slightly disjointed format, as well as some repetitiveness of topics, Elliott conveys an important message.

Elliott’s theme is supported in 2 Timothy 1:7, which states, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and self-discipline” (NIV). Elliott helps readers to put on the armor that God equips Christians with for spiritual warfare.

This book has practical techniques for studying the Bible, but its rather chaotic organization of ideas and concepts does not make it an easy book to pick up where you left off. So, when reading it, it would be best to read an entire chapter at one sitting. Mature Christians may find the topic repetition tedious, but women newer to the faith will be encouraged by these insights. – Michelle C. Archer,
