Review:

Bestselling author Shaunti Feldhahn has created another winner. For Young Women Only is a self-help book for women in their teenage years to early twenties. The book itself gives helpful tips to “figure out” guys. Though the topic may seem impossible, Feldhahn, with the help of Christian Living’s associate editor Lisa A. Rice, tackles the issues and brings them into terms we all can understand. With real-life stories and facts shared by guys speaking candidly, the book is an asset to any young woman’s library.

The journey through the male brain begins with a promise from the authors to be truthful and respective of the “other” gender. It moves through with outstanding polls from guys 15-20 years old as well as other surveys used in Feldhahn’s first book For Women Only. This is an easy read where the authors speak to you about the subjects at hand. The book provides help from experts in marriage, media, and sexuality. With more than ample proof of their findings, it gives gals a sure-fire chance to comprehend men’s brains.

There are many questions pertaining to men. Even though we live next to them and deal with them every day, they still can seem like aliens. Feldhahn and Rice give readers the ability to check out anything from issues of respect and body language to dealing with men while still keeping true to one’s self and to God. The biggest point made in this book is that men would rather have a woman’s respect than even her love. The authors say, “What men need is unconditional respect--to be respected for who they are, apart from how they do.” Women are love-wanting not respect-wanting, so it’s hard for them to make that connection. Quotes from guy after guy make this point through other topics as well, whether it’s about body image, sex, or even friends.

For Young Women Only not only makes a reader want to go “Oh!” it also provides a few “Ah-ha!” moments. All teenage girls should sit down and read this before heading into high school. I can’t imagine how different guys would’ve looked to me had I taken the time to figure them out. This is a book that an older woman could read and receive just as much information as a teenager. If you are looking for a shortcut into the male brain, this is it. Take the time, read it, soak it up and live it. I guarantee it’ll make your life a lot easier. – Mallory L.
