Paperback w/ DVD
If part of pure religion is helping the fatherless, how is the American church doing? With 143 million orphans in the world today, maybe we're not doing so well--until now. Jason Weber with Paul Pennington tells of how God is blessing churches that have started ministering to orphans. Launching an Orphans Ministry in Your Church tells how to do it.
The authors describe three channels for working with the fatherless: through orphanages, international and private domestic adoptions, and foster care and foster-care adoptions. They lead interested individuals through eight steps to start an orphans ministry in their church. They then suggest eight tools to use.
The small book is written in a plain, direct how-to style, but the enclosed DVD provides a short heart-tugging look at what churches can do. The authors suggest that the reader use the DVD to introduce the church leadership to the idea of an orphans ministry and then to use it with the congregation.
The authors provide appendices with verses about orphans, organizational contacts, and a list of church ministries that you can contact. The chapters include a section on potholes so that you can prepare before you hit them, and introduces people who have started ministries in their churches.
This highly practical book may help many children find real homes and real help from the church of Christ. -- Debbie W. Wilson, Christian Book Previews.com
