The Tough Sayings of Jesus

by Michael Kelley

Review  |   Author Bio  |  Read an Excerpt

Aimed at young adult groups, The Tough Sayings of Jesus has an unique format which includes audios the group leader sends by e-mail, an interest and eye catching layout, and Scripture from the Holman Standard Bible. The Introduction and 4 sessions cover: your view of Jesus; the command to the rich young ruler to give up everything; calling the Canaanite woman a dog; the unforgivable sin; and, Jesus as both peacemaker and warrior. Each session includes the Scripture, followed by a discussion which intimately involves the student, a few questions and suggestions, and a couple of empty pages for notes.

A useful study guide, this book is one of the Thread Series. Other titles include: Intransit: What Do You Do With Your Wait; The Exchange: Tired of Living The Christian Life On Your Own; and Get Uncomfortable: Serve the Poor, Stop Injustice, Change the World…In Jesus’ Name.

As an adult reader, I enjoyed The Tough Sayings of Jesus and found it adaptable to individual study. Also, the format of this study book will help the student to consider further Bible statements. – Donna Eggett, Christian Book

Book Jacket:

This four-session study examines a few of Jesus’ more puzzling conversations and confidently questions things Jesus said that are, in most cases, difficult to swallow.

In The Tough Sayings of Jesus participants will thoroughly study the meaning of each of these sayings and delve into the historical and cultural context of Scripture. The study offers no pat answers, but instead focuses on sparking discussion and providing fresh insight.
