The Revolutionary Communicator: Rediscovering Seven Principles Jesus Lived to Impact, Connect and Lead

by Erik Lokkesmoe & J. Medefind

Review  |   Author Bio  |  Read an Excerpt   |  Interview

Have you wondered how to improve your communicating? Eric Lokkesmoe and Jedd Medefind have answers in The Revolutionary Communicator. Both Lokkesmoe and Medefind are professional communicators. However, they do not teach readers how to do sound bites or "snow" their listeners.

Instead, The Revolutionary Communicator analyzes seven principles that Jesus demonstrated in His ministry to communicate with His listeners: attentiveness, empathy, using questions, transparency, storytelling, solitude, and defining success. The book is as much about Christ's character during His dealings with people as it is about speaking.

This is not a dull textbook. Their use of personal anecdotes, quotations, and stories fascinate the reader and illustrate their points. They write in a pleasant, conversational style that made me want to keep turning the pages. Their analysis of Jesus's communication style enlightened and encouraged me.

I especially appreciated their discussions of Jesus's relationship to His listeners. He respected them enough to allow them to make their own choices. Though He tried to convince, He did not try to force their obedience to His will.

Lokkesmoe and Medefind encourage their readers to adopt an eternal view to communication. They neither promote nor endorse the hard sell or self-centered styles of communication so typical today. They use scripture aptly and respectfully.

Though I hope to communicate better because of this book, I wish it had been available during my homeschooling years to use as a speech textbook. It is not written in a textbook format but each chapter ends with ideas to apply or consider.

This is an excellent and fascinating book. -- Debbie W. Wilson, Christian Book
