Debbie Taylor Williams’ new book, The Plan A Woman in a Plan B World, is an excellent guide for women whose lives have not gone exactly to plan. Women today are not strangers to living in the midst of trials they didn’t anticipate and which are far from being a part of their Plan A personal strategy. Williams tackles this huge and ever expanding issue by reminding women that God can and does work within our Plan B lives. In fact, what we see as our Plan B or C or even D could very well be God’s Plan A for us.
Williams offers biblically-based counterpoints to what she refers to as “land mines” of negative thinking, and she provides anecdotal support of her main points for each chapter. Each segment also highlights a woman of the Bible who struggled with that chapter’s issue and Williams speculates about what it must have been like for her. Jeremiah 29:11, which says, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,’” is an overall theme verse for this book. Throughout the book, Williams strives to make sure her readers are aware that God is sovereign over whatever situation they may find themselves in and that good can always come out of it.
Williams writes in a way that immediately captivates readers and leaves them wanting to continue turning pages. The Plan A Woman in a Plan B World is comprised of three main sections: live out loud, love out loud, and laugh out loud. Live out loud concentrates on stopping negative thinking and viewing circumstances from a new light. Love out loud is made to take reading the book to the next level by sharing it with friends and this part even includes discussion questions. Laugh out loud is a section for recording the little things in daily life that make the reader laugh, to help establish a new habit of seeing the good in everything. Each section is skillfully written and bursting with biblically sound advice and knowledge.
The writing in this book is strong and will prove to be useful to women ranging from high school age to older generations. This book is great when read alone, but is written in such a way as to allow it to be easily used in pairs or group studies. Single or married, young or old, The Plan A Woman in a Plan B World will be beneficial for women of all ages and walks of life. I would highly recommend this book to all Christian females looking for focus, direction, motivation, and encouragement. – Sarah Sawicki, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
