Vision Moments, by Bo Boshers and Keith Cote, is a how-to book for youth leaders to get their youth group motivated by not only a sermon, but by a visual that will make more of a lasting impression. The authors believe that through using these visuals, called vision moments, youth pastors can inspire, motivate and encourage their students. Vision Moments offers step-by-step instructions for using these inspirational lessons.
The book is divided into five sections: spiritual growth, a heart for God; community, caring for each other; commitment, developing student ownership; evangelism, a heart for others; and service, impacting the world. Each section has about four or five vision moments in it. These moments give a purpose and overview, then the materials, preparations, and instructions on what to do, say, and even pray. Both authors have served as the director of student ministries at Willow Creek Association. Boshers has written other books including Student Ministry for the 21st Century and Becoming a Contagious Christian.
“This generation learns best through stories,” says Cote. Each vision moment is a story. They offer a way for students to open up and be challenged by spiritual truths in a relatable way.
Overall, I really liked this book. I am a teen, and I can see myself doing most of the book’s activities, although some of them seem a bit immature to me. I would love to see my youth group leader use Vision Moments to help stir a renewed passion for God in my youth group. I would recommend this book to any youth group leader who wants to challenge teens to take that next step in their relationship with God. -- Susan Pearsall, Christian Book Previews.com
