Review:

Why Trust Jesus? by Dave Sterrett is a guide for those seeking answers to potentially difficult questions. It takes nine problems into consideration, beyond the central theme of why to trust Jesus Christ. These problems range from trusting God when you are dealing with death to dealing with failure. It also directly deals with why not to choose other religious options over Christianity. The author’s purpose is to persuade both believers and unbelievers that Jesus Christ is perfect, constant, and the only way to happiness. By defining the attributes of Jesus, Sterrett convinces his readers that Jesus is trustworthy through both good and bad times, including facing death..

Sterrett uses a lot of Bible verses to convince his reader, such as citing Luke 23:4 and Deuteronomy 32:4 to show Jesus was flawless and perfect. In addition, he uses several verses to show that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ. He takes advantage of other wise writers as well, such as C.S. Lewis and St. Augustine. He also uses modern voices, such as statements from Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan.

The book is well organized in presenting greatly thought-out arguments and clear responses, such as why you should trust Jesus when life seems to be going just fine. It uses multiple sources as bases for the conclusion to the problem of trusting Jesus. The author’s credentials are a combination of his work with Probe Ministries, his endless involvement as a youth leader, and his experience in teaching subjects such as Christ-centered living and apologetics.

Sterrett is clever in explaining how to talk to skeptics, agnostics, and philosophers. For example, he says that if someone says, “Nothing is absolutely true,” one could reply, “Is that absolutely true?” The nine predicaments of trusting Jesus are the foundations of showing Christians and non-Christians that Jesus is the only way to righteousness, and Christ must be trusted through thick and thin. Sterrett analyzes other worldviews as a way of revealing their flaws and showing that Christian theism is the only way.

This book gives ammunition to Christians who wish to defend the deity of Jesus through faith, logic, history, philosophy, and rhetoric. Admittedly, the topics tend to overlap in the various sections, which the author says is for emphasis, but other than that, it is well written, practical, and insightful. I highly recommend this book. – Salisha Hill, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Book Jacket:

Our generation is up for grabs! The last decade has shaken our trust in personal safety through terrorist attacks, school shootings, economic turmoil, and war. Our trust has been shattered in other areas as we have seen hypocrisy in governmental leaders as well as in the church. We are looking for relationships that are authentic and full of life, but we have many questions in regard to faith, reason, suffering and even the person of Jesus himself. Author and speaker Dave Sterrett helps us answer these and other questions: Why Should I Trust Jesus when So Many Other Spiritual Paths Exist? Why Should I Trust Jesus When All I Need to do is Trust Myself? Why Should I Trust Jesus in the Midst of Suffering and Death? Why Should I Trust Jesus When I Have Failed So Many Times?
