Knowing and Loving the Bible: Face-to-Face with God in His Word

Review:

In Catherine Martin’s latest release, Knowing & Loving the Bible, the founder and president of Quiet Time Ministries has designed a 30-day journey for you to take, with the Bible as your number one traveling companion. Martin lays out the red carpet to entice you to fall in love with God, its Author.

Built around a theme of spiritual romance, Martin invites you to embrace, explore, experience, and enjoy the Word of God. Although she claims that a personal relationship with God is at the heart of a quiet devotional time each day, Martin in no way lets you approach this time haphazardly.

Using the acronym P.R.A.Y.E.R., the author sets into motion a five-point quiet time plan: “Prepare your heart, Read and study God’s Word, Adore God in prayer, Yield yourself to God, Enjoy His presence, Rest in His Love.”

Why take so much quiet time, you might ask? As only one of many good reasons for being a serious student of the Bible, Martin says, “All earthly possessions erode over time, but not the Word of God. It is eternal.”

The author also suggests a host of secondary resources to accompany you, giving the idea that this journey is not for the fainthearted. But then, again, maybe it is because Martin reminds us, “Our struggle is not again flesh and blood, but the…spiritual forces of wickedness….take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to…stand firm” (Ephesians 6:12,13).

I recommend this book if you are ready for an uphill climb that offers a great view of the eternal Word of God and an endearing relationship with Him. – Cheryl A. Cecil, Christian Book Previews.com
