The Heart of the Story by Randy Frazee was written to describe the main theme running through the Bible. Frazee is a pastor in Texas and has written several other books.
Frazee summarizes and comments on the Bible, showing how the stories fit together and connect to life today. Frazeeís main premise is that Godís perspective of the things that happen in life is often very different from manís perspective. Godís thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). Frazee says that our goal should be to align ourselves more with Godís story.
For those who grew up in church, the book offers nothing new or insightful. At first, it seems to have the potential to benefit people less familiar with the Bible, but it doesnít sustain that momentum. It lacks organization and it fails to follow through on key matters with specific biblical references, parables, or spiritual lessons. The Heart of the Story is essentially a CliffsNotes version of the Bible, but scattered through the book are errors in direct quotations, story interpretations, and personal applications. In an attempt to be more interesting, some comments compromise the bookís accuracy to the details of the Bible text. Therefore, I hesitate to recommend this book to someone who is unfamiliar with Scripture. Ė Grace C. Yates, www.ChrstianBookPreviews.com
The Heart of the Story will help you see Godís Word in a new and inspiring light. In the Bibleís seemingly disconnected stories youíll discover one grand, unfolding epicóGodís story from Genesis onward, and your own story contained within it.
To understand the Bible, says author and pastor Randy Frazee, you need bifocal lenses, because two perspectives are involved. The Lower Story, our story, is actually many stories of men and women interacting with God in the daily course of life. The Upper Story is Godís story, the tale of his great, overarching purpose that fits all the individual stories together like panels in one unified mural.
In 31 chapters, The Heart of the Story will open your eyes to Godís master-plan unfolding in the lives of the Bibleís charactersóand in your own life. Discover the heart of Godís Upper Story, and the joy that comes as you align your story with Godís.
