Cheryl McGuinness's Bio:
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Cheryl McGuinness kissed her husband goodbye . . . and never saw him again. Tom McGuinness was the co-pilot of American Airlines Flight 11, the first to crash into the World Trade Center. On that day Cheryl’s world fell apart.
“I was a normal woman living a very happy life, and I never pictured that our dream would suddenly become a nightmare. I never imagined that our peaceful life would be completely shattered. And then came September 11.”
But looking back on her life, Cheryl could see that God had prepared her step-by-step to face her loss and put things back together. The faith she shared with Tom gave her a solid foundation, not only for rebuilding her life but also for effective ministry to the many others reeling from tragedy who reached out to her for hope and comfort.
In the almost three years since her loss, Cheryl has launched her own ministry—Beauty Beyond the Ashes—to provide support and encouragement to victims of violence. Through her ministry, Cheryl has had the opportunity to share her story through speaking engagements across the country and numerous news interviews. Cheryl has appeared on “Good Morning America,” MSNBC, CNN, FOX News, “700 Club” and “LIFE Today” with James Robison. She has also been featured in the Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Newsweek, Spirit Led Woman, Focus on the Family magazine and numerous other publications.
High-school sweethearts, Tom and Cheryl married in 1983. Tom, a top-gun trained, F-14 fighter pilot, was stationed in the navy in San Diego, California, while Cheryl worked as the human resource manager at Guidant Corporation. A few years prior to 9/11, Tom and Cheryl relocated to New Hampshire. Cheryl now lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with her two teenage children, Jennifer and Tommy.
