Mike Yorkey & Rick Myatt's Bio:
Mike Yorkey was editor of Focus on the Family magazine from 1986-1997 and held other titles at Focus on the Family, including editorial director and editor-in-chief. From 1991 to present, he has been the author, co-author, editor or collaborator of more than 55 books, including the best-selling Every Man’s Battle series with Steve Arterburn and Fred Stoeker, Holding Serve with Michael Chang, Play Ball with Dave Dravecky, and The Act of Marriage after 40 with Tim and Beverly LaHaye.
By the Sword is Mike’s first fiction effort, but in many of his autobiographical books, he has used fictional techniques to recreate events and scenes, giving the reader a “you are there” feel.
Mike has been married twenty-six years to Nicole, and they are the parents of Andrea and Patrick. Nicole is a Swiss citizen who grew up in Zurich and the Swiss Alps. Shortly after she and Mike were married, they moved to Geneva (and later Zurich), where they lived for eighteen months. Presently, they reside in Encinitas, California.
Rick Myatt grew up in Bakersfield, California, and graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a math degree. Following graduation, he worked four years with Campus Crusade at Long Beach State and began attending Talbot Theological Seminary, where he later graduated with an M.Div. in Systematic Theology.
While in seminary, Rick was on the pastoral staff at First Evangelical Free Church under Chuck Swindoll. He later planted a church in San Diego’s North County, starting with a group of about thirty people. More than twenty years later, that church, Seacoast Community, has grown to nearly 1,000 people, and today he is main pastor. The Yorkeys have been attending Seacoast Community since they arrived in San Diego in 1997.
Rick is an avid reader of techno-thrilling novels, and he considers himself a low-grade student of military hardware and tactics along with international relations. He and his wife, Laurie, have been married twenty-six years and are parents of Carissa and Toby. They live in La Costa, California.
