David C. Downing's Bio:
Award-winning author David C. Downing is a leading C.S. Lewis expert. He is the author of three previous books on Lewis: Planets in Peril, about the Space Trilogy; The Most Reluctant Convert, a biography of Lewis that was named one of the Top Ten Religion Books of the year by the American Library Association, and was a finalist for the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Gold Medallion Book Award in the category of Biography; and Into the Region of Awe, a study of the mystical elements in Lewis’s life and writings.
Downing has been invited to speak on C. S. Lewis in the U.S. and abroad. He has also been interviewed on Lewis by radio stations all over the country and has contributed articles to Christianity Today, Christianity and Literature, Books and Culture, Christian Scholars Review, Seven: An Anglo-American Review, The C. S. Lewis Legacy, and The Bulletin of the C. S. Lewis Society. He is also a consulting editor on Lewis for most of the journals named above.
Downing is the R. W. Schlosser Professor of English, an endowed chair at Elizabethtown College in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he teaches professional and creative writing.
He graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, the valedictorian of the class of 1973. He earned his doctorate in English from UCLA, where he received a Chancellor's Fellowship, the highest award given in the University of California system. Downing taught for fifteen years at his alma mater, where he was twice honored as Teacher of the Year.
