Joni Walker's Bio:
Joni Walker was raised in rural Indiana with the dream of becoming an artist. As a child, she spent much of her time coloring, drawing and imagining. When Joni wasn’t drawing, she loved being outside exploring the creek or playing with her cats, rabbits and dog, Bodger.
Joni graduated from John Herron School of Art in 1985 with a BFA in Visual Communications. During her time in college, she became interested in children’s book illustrating. It would be almost 20 years later that her first books were published by CPH.
Before Joni was an author and illustrator she worked as a freelance artist while staying at home with her three kids, Dirk, Alivia and Brooks. Her children are often subjects for her writing and drawing. They appear in many of her books. Joni teaches art to children and adults ranging from ages 5-90 and paints murals for Elementary Schools and businesses. She draws nearly everyday and works at developing her own unique characters. Joni lives in rural Indiana still today with her husband, Dave, three kids, and her spoiled little dogs, Artie and Maisy. Both dogs have been drawn over and over again!
Her books include the Follow and Do series and several board books such as Jesus Loves Me and Tell Me What God Made. Some of the things she loves about being an author and illustrator are visiting schools and showing children how fun drawing and writing can be and also getting up each morning, feeling blessed to have the opportunity to do what she loves.
