Laurette Willis's Bio:
Laurette Willis is an inspirational speaker, acclaimed actor and playwright, and the founder of PraiseMoves,™ the Christian alternative to yoga. For more than 25 years, she has been invited to entertain groups such as the U.S. Armed Forces, The President at the National Governors’ Association Conference, and more than 500,000 students in schools and universities.
As a keynote speaker, singer, and songwriter, Willis ignites her messages with heartfelt encouragement, personal stories, and humor. She sharpened her vocal talents Off-Broadway as an improvisational comedienne, earning the nickname “The Woman of 101 Voices,” and can be heard doing narration and voice-overs for radio and television commercials. In 2000, several of her character voices were heard in Max Lucado’s “You Are Special: The Animated Story” (Impact Productions). Willis is also known for historical drama, storytelling, wacky musical comedy, and her original one-woman shows portraying women of the Bible. A member of Christians in Theatre Arts and a CLASS-certified Speaker, she appears on the touring rosters of the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Heartland Arts Fund.
A certified personal trainer and Women’s Fitness Specialist, Willis created PraiseMoves,™ the Christian alternative to yoga, and now trains PraiseMoves instructors and presents Fitness for His Witness™ seminars at churches, retreats, and conferences. She explains the dangers of yoga and why Hindu spiritualism, which runs counter to the God of the Bible, cannot be extracted from yoga.
In her first Harvest House release, BASIC Steps to Godly Fitness, Willis introduces her BASIC—Body And Soul In Christ—step-by-step fitness plan to bring wholeness to the body, soul, and spirit. She teaches others how to transform the body and renew the mind, so that they may experience a closer walk with God, deeper sense of peace, and greater personal fulfillment. From simple nutritional do’s to a 21-day makeover plan, Willis empowers others to step into a place of strength using the secret power of prayer, fasting, and praise.
For 22 years, Willis immersed herself in yoga and New Age studies such as metaphysics, crystals, and psychism. In her quest to find herself, she studied Kabbalah, mystical Christianity, and other religions, while masking her deep loneliness with compulsive eating, alcohol abuse, and other destructive behaviors. One day in the midst of quiet despair, a question came to her mind, “What if everything you thought about God were completely wrong? Would you be willing to give it up to know the truth?” Two days later she surrendered her life to Christ and felt a physical weight lift off her body. “It was the weight of sin,” she explains. “I hadn’t realized sin was real. New Agers think the word ‘sin’ stands for ‘self-inflicted nonsense.’ That’s the deception of the Enemy, because if there’s no sin, there’s no need for a savior.”
An engaging media guest, Willis has been interviewed and performed on many regional radio and television programs, such as OASIS Radio Network’s “The Road Show” and Public Television’s “Writing Out Loud.” Recently, she was featured in a yoga exposé published in the March/April (2005) issue of Today’s Christian Woman. Willis and her husband, Paul, live on a 40-acre ranch in the Ozark foothills of Oklahoma.
